Children rely on adults to keep them safe. A prosperous future depends on raising a healthy, well-adjusted generation to be our community’s next workforce and caregivers—and parents need our support. Simple actions by others can make a big difference in positively impacting the lives of children.
Public health officials help protect the public’s health by tracking communicable diseases and other conditions using notifiable condition reporting. Public health also uses investigation data to assess broader patterns, such as historical trends and geographic clustering. Data in this report are collected by Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD), other local health departments, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from mandatory communicable disease reporting by health care providers, laboratories, health care facilities, and veterinarians, per Washington Administrative Code, chapters 246-100 and 246-101.
The Communicable Disease Dashboard provides information about the prevalence of communicable diseases in Spokane County. All data are considered finalized unless specifically noted to be preliminary in the data table or chart. This dashboard is updated monthly. Full reports of these data are available in the Reports section on this page.

Drowning is the second leading cause of injury death among children. Drowning is often swift, silent and occurs in as little as 30 seconds. In addition to adult supervision, life jackets are an important measure all Spokane County residents can take to prevent drowning – on lakes, rivers and in swimming pools.
The Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) program at Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) provides services and support for families of infants and toddlers from birth to age 3 who have developmental delays or health concerns that may cause developmental delay. Through ESIT, participating families receive information and early support services from five local providers, and help setting up those services.
If you are not sure if your child is eligible for ESIT, call 509.324.1651. Your child will receive an evaluation that looks at their cognitive, motor, communication, social-emotional, self-help, vision, and hearing skills, at no cost to you.
Services start with an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP). The plan has goals for your child and family, and it outlines services to help meet those goals. Services are provided in your child’s natural environment, like your home or child care. Services are provided by one of five intervention service providers participating with the SRHD ESIT program.
