Medical Reserve Corps of Spokane County

Where Does MRC Work in Our Community?

While MRC of Spokane County stands ready to respond to emergency events ranging from disaster response to disease outbreaks, volunteer efforts do not stop there. MRC volunteers share their knowledge and skills at various community events and trainings as well. Examples of current and past activities and responses are listed below.

Community Events

  • Bloomsday medical stations
  • Vaccination clinics
  • Community preparedness and safety fairs

Emergency Response

  • Provide medical shelter support during declared emergencies
  • Assist Spokane Regional Health District with disease outbreaks
  • Support other requests from partner agencies

Community Trainings

MRC volunteers work with community groups to provide a variety of training, including the following:

Question Persuade and Refer (QPR)

During this free training, volunteers train participants on the QPR model, an emergency mental health intervention for suicidal individuals. Through the course, participants learn how to be a suicide prevention Gatekeeper. Gatekeepers learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope, and how to get help and save a life.

Naloxone Administration Training

Volunteers teach members of community-based organizations and nonprofits how to recognize signs of opioid overdose and administer naloxone medicine to reverse overdose until 911 arrives.
