About the Food Safety Program

Under the Washington State Retail Food Code 246-215, Spokane Regional Health District’s (SRHD) Food Safety program protects the public’s health by:

  • Inspecting and permitting local food establishments
  • Reviewing facility and operating plans
  • Conducting construction inspections
  • Addressing foodborne illness and food safety concerns

Partnering With Food Businesses for the Safety of Local Communities

The Food Safety program is also a partner and resource for area food establishment operators. Program staff visit local businesses to provide educational visits and training. Food safety inspectors are also available during business hours to take questions and provide guidance, regularly answering questions about procedures and operational changes, guiding prospective operators on the required steps to starting a food business in Washington, and referring operators to appropriate resources.
