Human exposure to environmental hazards is linked to many diseases and reduced quality of life. By helping to minimize these hazards in people’s environments, public health greatly reduces the risk of negative health effects, while promoting a safe, healthy and thriving community.

The work of this program is important as it ensures that the environment in which Spokane County residents live, work and play is protected from practices that have negative impacts on human health.
The program is funded primarily with permit fees, solid waste disposal fees, and grants. The Environmental Resources program works with outside agencies like the Washington State Department of Ecology, Washington State Department of Health, and Spokane County.
