About
The purpose of Spokane Regional Health District's Board of Health (BOH) Policy & Education committee is to assist board members in performing BOH's governance responsibility specific to policy. The committee focuses on recommending policies for BOH consideration, leaving deliberations and final decisions to the full board. Additionally, they enact resolutions, guidelines and recommendations.
Also, the BOH Policy committee:
- Works with staff to identify health and equity issues facing Spokane County and to identify policies BOH can enact to positively address these issues.
- Provides initial guidance to staff on how much information BOH will need in regard to each policy being considered and the process to be used, including advising on the community input process for each proposed policy.
- Advises on whether a special, topic-specific committee or BOH work session is needed for larger, more controversial issues.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the committee’s process each year.
As well, the committee assists BOH in developing a Washington state legislative agenda by bringing forth ideas, particularly where there is a nexus between BOH local policy work and state legislative activity.
