Spokane, Wash. – April 7-13, 2025, Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) celebrates National Public Health Week, a week where local health jurisdictions across the country recognize that public health starts with each of us making a difference in our homes and communities. SRHD staff not only work but live in this community so public health is led by family members, neighbors, and friends right here in Spokane County.
This year, SRHD will highlight the national focus on how we all contribute to public health with the theme, “Public Health Starts Here,” by sharing messaging about how the many programs and services at SRHD contribute to the health and well-being of others. These messages will be shared across SRHD’s social media platforms throughout the week. (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube).
“Public health begins with each one of us in the community where we live, work, and play. The team here at SRHD is part of this community and passionate about leading public health work alongside their family, friends, and neighbors,” said Velázquez.
On Wednesday, April 9, at 10 a.m., SRHD’s weekly Facebook Live will feature Health Officer Dr. Francisco Velázquez speaking with Dr. Alicia Thompson about the importance of local public health efforts and how her connection with this community impacts her work as SRHD’s administrative officer. In addition, SRHD and community partners are participating with banners and blue lights to light up downtown Spokane all week.
Spokane Regional Health District is a leader and partner in public health by protecting, improving and promoting the health and well-being of all people through evidence-based practices. SRHD is one of 34 local public health agencies serving Washington state’s 39 counties.
