Flu shots remain best way to protect self, loved ones

SPOKANE, Wash. – Sept 9, 2010 – Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) announced today the arrival of its first shipment of seasonal flu vaccine, now available through the SRHD Public Health Clinic.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends this year that all people 6 months of age and older get immunized against flu. Clinic appointments for adults and children 3 years and older can be made by calling (509) 324-1600. SRHD will receive its infant flu vaccine later this month.

Vaccine, in both the nasal mist and shot form, is also being offered by many local health care provider offices and pharmacies. SRHD believes there will be sufficient quantity of vaccine to meet the needs of Spokane County.

The public health clinic’s price for a flu shot is $25. The price for children may be reduced in accordance with family size and family income. Later this month, the public health clinic will also be offering the new high-dose flu vaccine for those 65 years and older for $45. SRHD bills Medicare and Medicaid.

SRHD will also offer several community walk-in clinics in October and November.
