SPOKANE, Wash. – Hidden in Plain Sight is a series of interactive events, taking place April 13-19, offered by the Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) and community partners to caregivers, educators, and other adults 21 years and older who work with or care for youth.

Participants will walk through a mock teen bedroom and try to identify more than 70 items that could indicate problems or risky behaviors associated with vaping, cannabis, human trafficking, and mental health. Participants will then join a presentation and discussion about the indicators they saw, local youth trends, and tools to foster family conversations.

“Knowing when children and youth are struggling or at risk can feel difficult in our rapidly changing environment,” said Amanda Dugger, Youth Cannabis and Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program coordinator at SRHD. “Our hope is that by sharing how to talk to youth about their risks and struggles, we can equip parents, caregivers, and other adults to help the young people in their lives receive the support and resources they need.”

This event will take place in four different locations from 5:30-7:30 p.m. throughout Spokane County: April 13 at Freeman High School, April 17 at University High School, April 18 at Westwood Middle School, and April 19 at the ESD 101 Center.

Staff and faculty from schools and organizations who work with youth can participate virtually on April 18 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or in-person April 19 at the ESD 101 Center from 1-3 p.m.
