SAVE THE DATE FOR THE POWER OF OUR REGIONAL FOOD ECONOMY: 2013 CONFERENCE, APRIL 19

Feb 27, 2013

Keynote speaker, economist Ken Meter, is ground level national expert on enhancing regional food systems

Feb 28, 2013 – Spokane’s only conference covering every facet of opportunity that lies within a regional food economy will be held April 19, 2013. The Power of Our Regional Food Economy: 2013 Conference in Spokane’s University District is expected to attract more than 200 participants, rallying around the theme, Our Food, Our Economy, Our Health.

“The time is ripe for local leaders and key stakeholders to reclaim a food system that builds health, wealth, connection and capacity in our community,” said Ben Stuckart, conference chair and Spokane City Council president. “This day-long conference will give us the road map we need to bring a true systems approach to the regional food sector, potentially creating new labor income and new jobs.”

Economist Ken Meter will deliver Friday morning’s keynote. He is considered one of the country’s foremost food system analysts in integrating market analysis, business development, systems thinking and social concerns.

The four conference sessions: local food systems, financing, food distribution hubs, and planning and design, will result in four key outcomes:

  1. A foundation for a regional food systems study, leading to a food action plan
  2. An urban ordinance related to food issues
  3. Capacity building by increasing membership in existing organizations
  4. Creation of a food systems council

Registration for the event begins March 01, 2013. Go to www.realfoodspokane.org to register and for more details.
