Save the Date: Another Spokane Healthy Corner Store Set to Debut Sept 9
Aiming to be West Central community hub, Parkside Grocery touts WIC-designated shopping area, local sourcing of fresh fruits and vegetables
SPOKANE, Wash. – Aug 30, 2011 – Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) wants you to save the date for the grand opening of Parkside Grocery and its debut as a Spokane Healthy Corner Store. Members of the media and public are welcome to attend the free celebration event at the store next Fri., Sept 9, 2011, beginning with a community appreciation event at noon, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony. The store is located at West 1913 Maxwell, Spokane, across from Cannon Park Pool (A.M. Cannon Aquatic Center at A.M. Cannon Park).
In addition to being Spokane’s first Healthy Corner Store to accept Women, Infant and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) vouchers, the store also boasts:
- Locally-sourced fresh fruits and vegetables
- Simple recipes for preparing healthy foods
- Labeling that indicates healthier snack and drink options throughout the store.
- A WIC-designated foods shopping area
Activities and giveaways at the event are in the spirit of a healthier lifestyle, including:
- T-shirt raffles
- Free fresh fruit
- Children’s prizes
- Local guest speakers
Leading up to the event, the public can comment on what healthy alternatives they would like to see on the shelves at Parkisde by completing this brief survey.
