Teen Videofest Registration Now Underway

SPOKANE, Wash. – Oct 26, 2010 – Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) announced today it is now accepting entries for its annual Teen Videofest (TVF) competition.

In an effort to promote healthy communication among teens as they voice their health concerns and needs, the theme for this year’s contest is RAISE YOUR VOICE. TVF staff is encouraging entrants to incorporate the theme into their music, poetry, skits, commercials, cartoons, animation, or vignettes—anything creative they can record to video.

Creators of the three- to five-minute videos will compete for the grand prize of $1000. Winning submissions will be utilized in a variety of settings such as local classrooms, youth groups, health care provider offices and at www.THEDAILYRISK.com.

The videos should resonate with an audience comprised of teens’ peers, friends, classmates, parents, teachers, etc.

Teen Videofest staff welcomes perspectives on such topics as:

  • Turning bad communication into good communication
  • The components of healthy communication
  • How a young person can tell their partner they are not ready to have sex, or they don’t want to drink alcohol, or they don’t like how they are being treated
  • How a teen can feel comfortable talking with their doctor about sensitive issues
  • How teens can start “the conversation” with their parent(s)

Teens can go to www.THEDAILYRISK.com for online registration or to download materials for mailing. The contest is open to Spokane County teens, ages 14-19. In addition to the $1000 grand prize, there are numerous other prizes. Registration is open until December 30, 2010. For additional information contact Mishelle Earley at 509.324.1494 or Lisa Hinton at 509.324.1548.
