Public Health - Seattle & King County and the Washington State Department of Health have identified a confirmed case of measles in a King County resident with unknown vaccine history. There was no specifically identified exposure, and the infection appears to be U.S. acquired (no international travel). The case’s rash onset was on 5/15/23. During the case’s likely exposure period (7-21 days prior to rash onset, 4/24/23 - 5/8/23), they were in Pennsylvania from 4/18/23 through 4/30/23.

Communication with PA DOH and Philadelphia DPH indicated no known confirmed or suspect measles cases in their jurisdictions. The last reported measles case in PA was in October 2019. In Washington State, the last reported measles case was on 1/20/23. This investigation is ongoing and pertinent updates will be shared.
