The first signs of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, sore and red eyes, followed by a rash. By the time the rash appears, the person has already been infectious to others for four days.

The best way to stay safe is by getting the MMR (mumps, measles, rubella) vaccine. This shot has been tested and monitored for many years and is proven to work. Two doses protect most people (97%) from measles and greatly reduces severe complications if someone gets measles after being vaccinated. When 95% or more of the population is vaccinated, it helps keep measles from spreading and keeps everyone safe.

Call Ahead:

Call Ahead:

If you think you or someone in your home has measles, do not go straight to the doctor’s office. Instead, call first for advice on how to get evaluated without putting others at risk. This helps stop the virus from spreading to others, especially babies and people who cannot get vaccinated. Measles can be prevented. By learning the facts, getting vaccinated, and acting quickly, we can protect ourselves and our communities.
