Minor Consent for Both HPV and HBV Vaccinations
Under Washington State RCW 70.24.110, minors who are age 14 and over can give consent for STD diagnosis and treatment, which includes hepatitis B and HPV immunizations, without getting permission from a parent or guardian. Minors may receive other immunizations without parental consent under the Mature Minor Doctrine, if a minor is capable of understanding or appreciating the consequences of a medical procedure. In determining whether a patient is a mature minor, providers must evaluate the minor’s age, intelligence, maturity, training, experience, economic independence or lack thereof, general conduct as an adult, and freedom from the control of parents.
