SAN (Spokane AIDS Network) and Spokane Regional Health District (health district) will partner in September to help raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in the Spokane community.
AIDS Walk Spokane & Strength for the Journey Reunion BBQ, presented by SAN, in cooperation with the health district, will take place Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018. The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness and funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS in Spokane.
The walk begins at noon, starting and ending at Spokane Regional Health District, 1101 W. College Ave, followed by a BBQ lunch provided in part by Longhorn BBQ. Check in and onsite late registration starts at 11:00 a.m. on the health district’s west lawn. Although participation in the walk and BBQ is free, individuals are encouraged to register at www.san-nw.org to provide an accurate count for the BBQ. Optional donations can also be taken through the online registration system.
This event is also a chance to meet with the SAN Board of Directors. After a year of reflection and planning, the Board’s goal is to provide more opportunities for events and safe spaces for people impacted by HIV and AIDS to gather, build community, raise awareness and fight stigma in Spokane.
We are currently beginning our plans for a World AIDS Day event on Dec. 1, 2018 and are extremely excited to announce that we will be reinstating the tradition of Holiday Bags this year. Look for more details and how to get involved coming soon to our website.
All funds raised in conjunction with the walk and BBQ will support SAN’s mission and ongoing activities.
About SAN and SRHD
SAN was established in 1985 as an informal network of friends, medical caregivers, and concerned citizens to coordinate services for people living with HIV and AIDS in the Spokane area. Today, SAN’s mission is to empower people at risk of, or affected by, HIV/AIDS through education, outreach and advocacy.
The HIV component of Spokane Regional Health District’s HIV/STD Services program was established in 1988 with the primary purpose of preventing the spread of HIV infection. Today the health district provides free HIV testing, PrEP navigation, needle exchange, and HIV case management for those at highest risk.
