Spokane Regional Health District reports 286 cases of mumps in Spokane County, with several more under investigation, therefore, the number is expected to grow in coming days.

Most people have immunity to the mumps through vaccination, so the risk to the general community of getting mumps is low. The health district is still advising individuals to check their children’s and their own vaccination status and verify that they are up-to-date with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. The MMR vaccine continues to afford our community with good coverage and prevention against mumps. Here is a helpful video we created for understanding efficacy and attack rates.

Spokane Regional Health District’s goal is to prevent the outbreak from spreading further and health district staff are grateful to numerous partners in the community who are helping to mitigate the spread of mumps.
