Media, Public Invited to Attend Teen Videofest Premiere and Awards

Feb 1, 2011 — Spokane, Wash., — Spokane County teens will soon show off their film making skills during a premiere and awards night for Teen Videofest. Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) is inviting media and members of the public to come help celebrate their accomplishments.

This free event will take place Thurs., Feb. 10, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at The Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln, Spokane.

Teen Videofest staff challenged area youth, ages 14 to 19, to RAISE YOUR VOICE—a theme aimed at promoting healthy communication among teens as they voice their health concerns and needs. Video topics address bullying, eating disorders, drugs and other pertinent issues teens face. The event will showcase the teens’ 3-5 minute videos that they were responsible for writing, casting, shooting and editing. Contest winners will be announced and cash prizes awarded for first, second, third and honorable mention. North By Northwest will be presenting a special award for best production.

Winning submissions will be utilized in a variety of settings such as local classrooms, youth groups, health care provider offices, and at www.THEDAILYRISK.com - SRHD’s site dedicated to being Spokane’s teen resource for adolescent health information.

"Teen Videofest is a truly remarkable opportunity for youth in Spokane County to challenge themselves, to help each other and to inform the greater community of issues teens face daily," said Dr. Joel McCullough, SRHD public health director.

In addition to the screenings, there will also be refreshments and door prizes. RSVP is encouraged online at www.THEDAILYRISK.com, or email Lisa Hinton at lhinton@spokanecounty.org. More information can also be found on Teen Videofest Facebook and Twitter sites.
