Spokane City Councilmember, District 2
Breean Beggs serves as Spokane City Councilmember representing District 2. He is devoted to advocacy for the disadvantaged and community reconciliation. For more than twenty years he has effectively presented causes and cases to juries, appellate judges, arbitrators, mediators, community groups and the media.
Highlights include substantial police reform measures in Spokane, Washington, in connection with the death of a mentally disabled janitor; substantial national reform on oil pipeline safety in connection with the death of three children in the Olympic Pipeline Explosion, and multiple jail reform and legal financial obligation issues in Spokane County in connection with class action lawsuits.
Beggs was awarded the 2015 WSBA Norm Maleng Leadership Award and the 2003 WSBA Local Hero Award. He graduated from Whitworth University and University of Washington School of Law. Beggs is married to another social change lawyer, Laurie Powers, and they are raising three children together near Manito Park in Spokane.
