Healthy Communities: City Council District 1

A Healthy Community is one that provides its residents with access to healthy foods and ways to be physically active. Healthy communities have farmers markets, safe routes to schools, sidewalks, crosswalks, grocery stores and restaurants within walking distance, and a social environment where neighbors are outside greeting each other and children play together. We are working with a dynamic group to make Spokane City Council District 1 just that… a Healthy Community. For more information, call 324-1530.

Current projects:

Universal Playground
In Spring 2009, a universal playground for children of all abilities will be built to increase their physical activity in the heart of City Council District 1, Mission Park. This project started with a grant from University of Washington Center for Public Health Nutrition in 2003 and has been a partnership between the Spokane Regional Health District and Rotaract of Spokane.
